At Gold Coast Holistic Dental Care, Adriana Cayuela offers dry needling therapy to our patients. The therapy benefits include providing pain relief and improving the range of movement of joints.
Dry needling uses acupuncture needles which are inserted into soft tissue into pressure points of the muscles. It is designed to relieve tightness and muscle pain but may also help to improve muscle flexibility. The muscle’s trigger points are needled without injecting any other substances.
The small needles are introduced into the skin and tissues below. If a muscular knot (pressure point) is needled, it may provoke a “twitch” response of the relevant muscle. This has a relaxation effect on the muscle fibres in that area which can improve blood circulation and reduce inflammation. The dry needling treatment takes between 10 and 30 minutes per session, or can be incorporate in your massage session.
After a dry needling session you may feel sore as if you have had a strong gym session, and the soreness usually last 24-48 hours. In many cases, we see an improved mobility immediately and decreased pain is felt within 24 hours. Typically, it may take a few sessions (once a week for 2-3 weeks) for a lasting positive effect.
Dry needling may provide relief for muscular pain and stiffness. In addition, easing the trigger points may improve flexibility and increase the range of motion of joints. The method is often used to treat sports injuries, muscle pain, and even TMJ disorders.
Studies have shown the effectiveness in treating TMJ disorders with dry needling and acupuncture. You can read more about it here.
Dry needling is a safe and drug-free treatment. Some of the common side effects are bruising, mild bleeding and temporary soreness.
Adriana can also incorporate dry needling into her massage therapies if required at no extra charge. To book an appointment with Adriana for Dry Needling, please call our team on 07 5644 6000 or book online here.
