Osteopathy

Osteopathic treatment focuses on the whole body. Osteopaths view the body as a complex, interconnected system and believe that addressing an issue in one area can positively impact the body as a functioning network.

It revolves around a hands-on approach to the soft tissues (such as muscles, ligaments and tendons), the spine and the nervous system, and may use a variety of different hands-on techniques, including:

  • Spinal manipulation
  • Soft tissue massage techniques
  • Articulation – gentle rhythmic joint movements
  • Stretching muscles and joint capsules
  • Muscle energy techniques – encouraging muscles to work against resistance
  • Visceral manipulation – gentle movement of the abdominal and pelvic areas.

How can osteopathy treatment help me?

Osteopathic techniques are very gentle, meaning they can be suitable for a wide range of people, from newborns to older people and those with complex or recurring injuries. Pregnant women also find osteopathy very helpful in maintaining comfort throughout the pregnancy and preparing the body for childbirth. Some of the most common health concerns that bring people to seek osteopathy treatment include:

  • Back/Neck Pain, Joint pain, muscle strains/pain
  • Fibromyalgia symptoms
  • Poor posture and postural issues
  • Sports Injuries, carpal tunnel and repetitive strain injuries (RSI)
  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Pregnancy Discomfort and postpartum recovery
  • Infants and Children (colic and sleep issues and developmental concerns)
  • Respiratory Conditions
  • Digestive Problems
  • IBS and Constipation
  • Stress and Mental Health
  • Stress Relief and Improved Sleep
  • Circulatory System (improved circulation)

At your initial consultation, your osteopath will ask you about your medical history so that you can be treated and looked after in the context of your overall health.
