Gold Coast Holistic Dental Care

More than just a dental clinic

What to Expect When Getting Same Day Crowns

Usually, dental crowns from a traditional dental practice will take 2 visits. A temporary crown is put in while you wait for the individualised permanent crown to be made off-site. This can be very expensive and time consuming for the patient and here at Gold Coast Holistic Dental Care, we believe it doesn’t have to be that hard.

What are Porcelain Crowns?

Porcelain crowns, or ceramic crowns and porcelain teeth, as they are sometimes referred to, are an option for people who have damaged teeth, and a simple dental filling is no longer an option. Crowns are custom-made caps or crowns that are bonded to the tooth, restoring it to its original size, strength and function. Porcelain or ceramic crowns provide the best and the most natural look as they match your surrounding teeth in shape, size, and colour. Porcelain, therefore, is the best option for front teeth restorations. They are also biocompatible, which means that absolutely no metal is used, and they are completely toxic-free.

Do I Need Porcelain Crowns?

Patients with a heavily worn, damaged, chipped or heavily decayed tooth may require a porcelain crown. Your dentist can match the shape and the colour of your other teeth with porcelain, so you don’t have to worry about the effect on your smile. Here at Gold Coast Holistic Dental Care, we always use porcelain because it is the best, toxic-free material that mimics the aesthetic of your real tooth. A porcelain filling may be required if you have light to moderate tooth decay.

What is the Same Day Crowns Process?

Here at GCHDC, we are proud of our CEREC machine, which allows our patients to bypass the inconvenience and the extra cost of the usual 14-day process. CEREC same-day crowns use a milling machine, Computer Aided Designing and 3D imaging software. This enables your dentist to manufacture your dental crown in one day, which is why they are referred to as same-day crowns. The dentist will also have to reduce the size of your old tooth to ensure that the crown fits properly over the top of the tooth. Then, they will drill the decayed portion of the tooth away and replace it with a strong porcelain filling. This will stop the cavity from growing any further.

How Long Do Same-Day Crowns Last?

Average dental crowns made form porcelain last between 5 and 15 years on average, before a replacement prosthetic is needed. However, CEREC crown longevity can be longer, depending on how well you look after your dental hygiene. Speak to your local dentist if teeth grinding is a problem for you, as this reduces the lifespan of your crown. Our holistic approach and stress-relief can help with stress-related teeth grinding or clenching.

What are the Benefits of Porcelain Crowns?

The advantages of porcelain crowns include:

  • Biocompatibility: Porcelain is by far the most biocompatible dental material available. And is completely free of toxic materials.
  • Strength: Porcelain is nearly as strong as your original tooth structure and wears very similarly to natural teeth.
  • Longevity: Porcelain restorations are the longest-lasting dental materials available.
  • Aesthetics: Porcelain looks like natural enamel and can be indistinguishable from natural teeth.
